Fear. Phobias. Anxiety.
It intrigues us. We hide it and try not to discuss it past childhood.
Each day we are taught to block out or cover up our feelings, repressing that part of our very selves.
PHOBIAS is a movement theatre performance exploring how fear manifests itself in the body.
Do we Retreat? Collapse? Hide? Expand? Excite? Freeze?
In Phobias, our ensemble created piece, Empty Spaces explores varying techniques from Viewpoints to Postmodern Composition,…Jacques Lecoq to Improvisation to tear through the layers to discover honesty within. We are all strangers to one another unless we risk exposure,…risk facing our fears.
Choreographer Anna DeMers is currently working towards her Master's of Fine Arts in Theatre at Sarah Lawrence College in New York , she studied Lecoq at Touchstone Theatre and received her Bachelor's from Rollins College . Her focus of study is movement theatre, incorporating and developing the actor and character through the body onstage.
